Unlocking Resilience: Normalizing Setbacks

You finally left that toxic relationship or job. You thought that every day was going to be “better and better”. Unfortunately, you are now experiencing setbacks and some days are harder than expected. Experiencing setbacks is normal part of healing and recovery. Whether you are healing from an unhealthy relationship that you just left or recovering from burnout from a job.  At times when we experience setbacks: we think we are doing something wrong. However, setbacks are a typical part of recovery and healing. Here are three questions ask yourself as you are experiencing setbacks.

1.     How far have a I come since I left that unhealthy relationship, toxic job etc...?

2.     Can I give myself credit for the progress I have made so far?

3.     What is one thing can I implement today to continue my journey of healing and recovery?

Unlocking resilience can be challenging. Acknowledging and accepting that setbacks are going to happen is the first step. Once we truly accept, they are part of the journey we can see them as opportunities for continued growth.
